Sulah Hudaibiya

A must-see historical city on the Red Sea

About Sulah Hudaibiya

Sulah Hudaibiya was a pivotal peace treaty between the Muslims of Medina, led by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the Quraysh tribe of Makkah. It was signed in 6 AH (628 CE) at a place called Hudaibiya, located near Makkah, when the Prophet and his companions attempted to perform Umrah but were stopped by the Quraysh. The treaty stated that both parties would cease hostilities for ten years and that Muslims would return to Medina without performing Umrah that year but could come back the following year. Though some companions initially viewed the terms as unfavorable, Sulah Hudaibiya turned out to be a strategic victory for Islam. It allowed peaceful propagation of the faith, strengthened Muslim alliances, and eventually led to the peaceful conquest of Makkah.
